Wes Edens was born on October in 1961 and grew up in Montana. He attended Oregon State University where he graduated with a Bachelors in Finance and Business Administration. His first job after graduation was at a California bank.He is interested in sports, businesses, and politics. He is also fascinated by horse riding, running and mountain climbing, he has climbed the Matterhorn Grand Teton and Mt.Kilimanjaro in Tanzania in East Africa. He was also a competitive ski racer in his youth.He once said he had the passion for sports and business. In 2014, he partnered with Marc Lasry to buy the Bucks basketball team from Herb Kohl at $550 million and an additional $100 million for an arena to replace the BMO Harris Center.

The Bucks basketball team is now successful in Wisconsin. The Bucks team is now valued at $1 billion. Wes Edens is also a successful American businessman and a private equity investor.His success story dates back to 1987 when he began his career at Lehman Brothers. He worked here as a partner and a managing director before moving to BlackRock’s private equity division where he worked till 1997 as a partner and a managing director.Recently in January 2018, he announced the sale of his main business, Fortress Investment group. In 1998 together with Robert Kauffman, Peter Briger, Michael Edward, Randal Nardone, Wes Edens founded Fortress Investment group with an initial investment of $400 million. 20 years later, Wes Edens is selling the Fortress Investment group at $3.3 billion in cash to Japan’s SoftBank Group Corporation. His total earnings for selling the company was at around $512 million.

From February 2017, he has received cash summing up to $11.4 million through bonus dividends related to the deal. He has also earned $1.4 million in unvested shares. Fortress Investment Group, however, continues to operate in New York City as an independent business within Softbank.It also retains Edens, Peter Briger, and Randy Nardone as its principals under new five year contracts. Currently, he is the chairman of the Board at Drive Shack Inc., director at OneMain Holdings Inc and New Media Investment Group Inc. amongest other companies.He also served in the boards of Gaming and Leisure Inc. from October 2013 to October 2016, New Residential Investment Corporation from April 2013 to May 2016 and Nationalstar Mortgage Holdings Inc. from February 2012 to July 2016.
