José María del Río, managing director for Spanish brand of OSI Food Solutions has recently stated that the company has witnessed an average 6 percent annual growth over the last decade in the demand for processed chicken in Spain and Portugal. In response to this issue, OSI Food Solutions has invested €17 million into major upgrades to the production line at the company’s facility in Toledo, Spain. The result of this massive investment into the Spanish facility has been a doubling of production of processed chicken. The location was previously producing around 12,000 tons of processed chicken per year and that number has been grown to 24,000 tons of processed chicken per year as a result of OSI’s investment into upgrades. These measures go a long way to helping OSI keep up with customer demand in the critical Spanish and Portuguese markets.
OSI Food Solutions has been pay a heavy amount of attention to all of its European operations over the last handful of years. The company forged a partnership with British company Pickstock in 2014. Pickstock is a major U.K. producer of beef and the company has a true pulse on the British market making the partnership ideal for OSI Food Solutions. In the 2016 calendar years, OSI Food Solutions added two major European food companies to the OSI roster by way of acquisitions. British company Flagship Europe, a supplier of sauces, marinades, pies and other speciality food items is now a member of the OSI Food Solutions family of brands and will be renamed Creative Foods Europe. OSI also added Dutch company Baho Food. Baho has a huge reach across the continent of Europe and has facilities operating in Germany and the Netherlands. The addition of Baho Food has been lauded by OSI President and Chief Operating Officer David McDonald as a huge step in bolstering the OSI portfolio and attracting new corporate accounts to the OSI family.
OSI Food Solutions also has a sterling reputation for its commitment to environmental management. The company was recognized for these efforts in the U.K. in 2016. The British Safety Council presents its Globe of Honour Award annually to organizations that meet the council’s 5-Star rating while making a commitment to being environmentally conscious. OSI executives were thrilled with the honor as it has been a high priority for the company to ensure that its facilities are in compliance with all environmental standards.
