James Dondero Leads in Fundraising for Victims of Domestic Violence

On the 21st Annual Texas Trailblazer Awards Luncheon hosted by The Family Place and held at the Hilton Anatole in Dallas, Texas, the founder and president of Highland Capital Management- James Dondero announced that the firm had awarded the Family Place a grant worth $1 million. This was in attempt to help The Family Place- the leading organization in supporting those affected by domestic violence raise $2.8 million, which would be used in the following 6 months in the Legacy Campaign. Highland Capital Management had given this grant, which was half of the already contributed amount, through its philanthropic branch, Highland Dallas Foundation, Inc. This contribution was a huge boost in the campaigns goal of reaching $16.5 million.


The Family Place Legacy campaign was aimed at constructing a new central Dallas Counseling Center for victims of family violence. These victims had been named in honor of Ann Moody and the architectural design was done by Corgan Firm. The facility would include a medical and dental clinic, several private and group counseling rooms, 13 emergency shelter bedrooms, spaces for job training and a hotline center. The facility would be able to serve about 2000 victims every year. Ann Moody Place would house about 6000 victims of teen dating and bullying. For those victims who are very much attached to their pets, an animal shelter would be availed.


To his managerial job at Highland Capital Management, James Dondero adds his 30 years of experience in the equity and credit market from where he has gained from investments. He studied at the University of Virginia acquiring the highest honors in Commerce majoring in accounting and finance. He had earlier received certificates in CPA, CMA and CFA.


With his education, Mr. James Dondero gained employment at GIC branch of Protective Life where he served as the Chief Investment Manager between 1989 and 1993. There, he helped raise the value of the company to about $2 Billion. Prior to that, he had been a Corporate Bond Analyst at American Express. He was thereafter promoted to become the Portfolio Manager. Beside work, Dondero chairs NexBank, CCS Medical and Cornerstone Healthcare.
