James Dondero: A Businessman Who Cares About Others


James Dondero currently serves as the president of Highland Capital Management. This is a company that he co-founded with Mark Okada in 1993. Highland Capital Management has grown to hold over $17 billion is assets under management, and the firm has locations in Dallas, Seoul and Singapore among other locations.

Prior to co-founding Highland Capital Management, Jim Dondero graduated from the University of Virginia. Upon graduation, Jim Dondero worked for JP Morgan before moving over to American Express. In 1989, Mr. Dondero was named the CIO of GIC.

Without a doubt, James Dondero is a successful business executive and investor. He is also a philanthropist. He and his company are involved in helping others in the Dallas community.

Jim Dondero and Highland Capital Management are actively involved in helping the Dallas Zoo. Mr. Dondero devotes both time and money to the University of Texas Center for BrainHealth. One of James Dondero’s philanthropic efforts that he is most proud of is his involvement with the Bush Center. Recently, Highland Capital Management provided the Bush Center with an endowment fund of $10 million. With this large amount of funding, the Bush Center was able to launch the Engage Lecture Series. Because of the Highland Capital Management donation, these lectures are able to be made free to the general public.
