Doe Deere, an entrepreneur who founded a cosmetic company called Lime Crime, has started a new business called Poppy Angeloff. Poppy Angeloff is Victorian style jewelry company for modern girls and women. Deere came up with the idea after going through some family heirlooms and falling in love once again with the pieces of jewelry that she found. Deere started playing with the concept of creating heirloom jewelry that could be passed down through the generations. Though she was still very much involved in her cosmetic company at the time, she began to study jewelry making history and learning about jewelry design. She gives her sister the credit for pushing her to start Poppy.
Regardless of the path that Deere’s entrepreneurial spirit takes her, it is important that she stays true to herself and her love of color. This love of color is what helped to make her cosmetic company such a success. Deere made it acceptable to use color as a way to express one’s self. After 10 years, she sold her cosmetic company but still plays an important role in the company.
Now, Deere and her husband Mark are working hard to expand Poppy. Even though she has started a new company, the core values of her businesses do not change. According to Deere, it is important to appreciate your customer and in the world of social media, you need to appreciate your audience.
Life has not always been easy for Deere. She and her family came to America when she was 17. They lived in a homeless shelter for a while before her mom found a job as an accountant. Deere believes that it is these experiences that gave her the drive to become something. For Deere, it is all about her passion. It is her passion of color that makes her who she is. Color creates a mood and speaks to how we are feeling. She enjoys helping women to feel confident about who they are and helping them feel comfortable in their own skin.
